The next day, even though she wasn’t playing, things had changed for Constance. She was getting recognized, and there was more talk about her on the television coverage of the tournament. Initially, she had been a little trepidatious about the attention, but she quickly came around and found herself enjoying it. And finally, after wavering back and forth on her feelings about it, Constance was now embracing the Widowmaker moniker. It gave her a sense of power, and prestige. It was some of the more successful and well-known players that had a nickname. And very quickly, Constance was joining their ranks.

Constance had an interview scheduled with a couple of TV personalities that were broadcasting the tournament, and Mina accompanied her to the makeshift studio in the casino not too far from the event rooms. As they stood outside the studio, Constance could feel herself growing slightly nervous. She had never been on television before, never had to sit for an interview of any kind beyond a job interview. At Mina’s insistence, Constance dressed elegantly in a dress, with her hair and makeup done, slightly provocative with her cleavage on display. Despite her nervousness, Constance felt good in her outfit. It always felt nice to dress up.

“You’re going to be fine, lovely,” said Mina, leaning in for a kiss. “Just reach for that very same confidence you feel at the poker table. Play the people, not your hand.”

“That’s good advice,” Constance replied. “I think I can channel that part of me, and at least fake it while I get comfortable.”

“I know you can,” said Mina. She smiled tenderly. “I’m going to leave you here, though. I have an appointment.”

“An appointment?” asked Constance. “What appointment?”

“It’s nothing,” Mina said simply. “I’ll tell you about it later. Don’t worry. Just focus on yourself and keeping it together for this interview. I believe in you.”

Mina kissed her once again, and Constance returned the kiss absently.

“Thanks,” mused Constance. She took a deep breath. “I don’t know why I agreed to a live interview.”

“You’re going to do just fine,” Mina consoled. “Put on your poker face. Be the Widowmaker. Okay?”

“Yes,” said Constance. She smiled and looked at Mina. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” she replied. “Now I must be off. We’ll meet up in just a little while.”

“All right,” Constance said. “All right.”

Mina gave her one more smile, and then she shooed Constance off with the quick flipping of her fingers. Constance smiled now, too, she turned from Mina, and opened the door that lead into the studio. Mina remained there, smiling, waiting as the door closed. And as soon as the door closed, she walked off, moving through the casino with purpose in her steps.

It took Mina some time to walk across the Majestico to get to her appointment. But even so, by the time she reached the theatre, she looked at her watch and found herself to be a little earlier than she had expected. Fortunately, not too far away from the door she was
